I don't like the show and it always embarrasses me when I turn on my deck in front of other people and that boot screen pops up.

Hey everyone,

I am following Bald Sea Lion's video for dual booting windows on steam deck. Everything was going smoothly until I reached the 12 minute mark of this video:

I get this error after selecting the windows 11 iso

boot configuration data for your pc is missing

Any ideas? Thank you!

Original Title: Using Xenia Canary with Windows 11 on Steam Deck. Is there a way to hide the the mouse cursor while playing on fullscreen using Xenia Canary emulator? The cursor constantly appears whenever I turn the camera in a game.

I decided to install windows last night (full os swap, not dual boot). And windows runs decent but when I try to load a game, fans ramp up, 5 fps and it is a lag fest. I'm not ashamed to admit I may have done something wrong. But before I ditch the idea of windows and go back to steam os, I figured it could be fixable. I'm assuming drivers, but not totally sure. Any help is appreciated! (I can take pictures and videos along request, wasn't sure if description was enough)

Also lastly I was told windows activation was not needed and yet I have the activation watermark.

i have been using steam deck for quite a while (Got mine in January this year), I have known about dual booting for quite a while but never really tried it until now, I want to use an external SSD (It's size is 500 gb) but all the guide I have seen (which are old now) is using Sd card, so is Sd card safe or a SSD, if SSD is preferrable then can you please give me steps to do it (as I have not found on internet) and also can I use my SSD normally (for game storage purpose) on my steam deck after dual booting it or I need a seperate SSD for that. I have already posted on the steam deck subreddit and someone recommend me to ask this here. Thanks in Advance

I've been thinking about upgrading my deck's SSD but I'm not privy to what the process is like in terms of OS. I built my own. Desktop from scratch so I imagine installing the hardware won't be too hard, but I have no point of reference for the software. Would it basically be the same as when I installed windows on my original SSD?

also, is there anything I would be able to do with my 256 SSD after the new one is installed?

In the last few days I decided to dual boot my Steam Deck to enjoy the games from the Gamepass catalog, but recently I've been looking at some comparison tests between the performance on both systems, and I see that in games like Ratchet and Clank, SteamOS has a advantage of up to 10FPS in some scenarios.

Do you think that with Steam's recent optimizations, Windows will continue to suffer from this disadvantage?

Tried to play Planet of Lana on gamepass docked on my ultrawide monitor and when it didn’t launch properly, I changed the resolution to 1920x1080 via Steam Deck Tools.

Now the external monitor is black. Tried rebooting the deck and no luck with my docked monitor coming back alive.

Please help if you experienced this before!

I would like to change my screen resolution but when I go into display settings in Windows the option to change the resolution is grayed out. Before, I was able to change it and used it to play games like csgo. This might be due to me installing the modified Amernine drivers following this guide from bald sealion but I'm not entirely sure. Did anyone else install the drivers and have the same issue?

I got a used steam deck and it has fresh windows 11 on it. No steamOS, and I've never tried SteamOS.

I installed handheld companion. It requires admin permission to launch though and I havent been able to get it to auto run on startup. So I launch it manually every time I restart. I set up some hotkeys to toggle the on screen keyboard, and to switch to desktop mode for keybindings, but they end up interfering with many of the steam keybindings in game. I also often have to minimize out of a game, turn off desktop mode on handheld companion, then go back into game to get any buttons in game to work.

This is pretty un-seamless. I am a windows guy, but not sure if this is the best experience for steamdeck. Maybe I am just set up poorly and watched the wrong guy on youtube for help. Thinking about reformatting back to steamOS, OR trying to clone my windows install to my sd card and then putting steamOS on the SSD.

What do you recommend? Are there really that many games that need windows to run well? I also have a windows gaming pc and can stream games from it to my deck, which seems to work well. Is this a viable option for any game that steamOS doesnt like?

Hello everyone. I recently attempted to set up dual boot on my steam deck using this guide.

I followed everything this guy did in the video except when shrinking the home partition I didn't shrink it as much as he did because I only wanted 100 or so GB allocated for Windows. I set the new unallocated partition to NTFS like he did. Applied the operation

Now here's the part where something went wrong. When he's installing windows he had two "extra partitions" that he deleted? And then he created a new one and installed windows there. I did not have these extra partitions. I didn't want to delete any partitions that may have SteamOS on them so I just selected the 100GB partition I created with Gparted and installed windows there.

Now when I boot up and go to the bootloader there's no option for SteamOS? Did I delete it? Is there anyway to get it back through the file manager?

How do you properly do this? Clearly the guy in the video skipped a step.

TLDR: Followed linked video exactly but ended up not having the partitions he did when installing windows. Installed it to new partition I made and now SteamOS is gone

Probably should've looked up if this is possible before getting an SSD and an SSD enclosure but.. oh well.

I'm currently running Windows 11 on the internal SSD of the SteamDeck and there's no reason for me to dual boot. I only want to have SteamOS on an external SSD for titles that perform better.

I know that it's possible to do it the other way around, but haven't found anything about this specific configuration.

Am I able to select the target install location for SteamOS or does it only work on the internal storage?
