The only difference is that the Confederacy actually managed penetrate into an important part of the frontline in Gettysburg, this is probably closer to Japan taking Attu island apart from the forces committed.

All the arguments the article makes could've been made using the first nazi invasion of Kursk as the example, but we all know why a US publication won't go there.
