Apple TV has the “Up Next” feature which helps as the latest tv show episodes from all your apps are on the Home Screen. Even when you search it gives options from different apps. However, it’s painful for me on a mobile device to have so many apps installed, which take up a lot of space.

Yeah, Google does the same thing, but it launches the specific app in order to play from that screen (and not every app handles that gracefully).

What's interesting about Amazon is that they play the actual content in the same app, even when licensed through a subscription with another service.

Apple TV handles it the same way. Netflix doesn’t work because they want you to open the app and scroll through multiple rows to resume watching.

Are you required to subscribe through Prime or can I add any subscription?

I think it only works with services subscribed through Amazon.
