The game will probably soldier on for a significant period of time.
It will probably be in a "zombie" state, not unlike that of Champions Online (as I understand it, I don't really play that game).
We're closer to STO's end than its beginning.

TBF the game is 15 years old, and it's already been said more than once that the engine is old but too deeply engrained to alter. The fact it's made it this long is a pretty impressive feat.
