There will be food on the other side as long as they surrender through proper channels. It's pretty terrifying now though as there have been "unconfirmed" reports of Russian POV drones dive bombing surrendering Russian troops.
Just like in WW2 when Soviet captains were arming the rear guard so as to shoot retreating Soviet soldiers.
Barrier troops have been a thing in this war as well. Typically Kadyrov’s “Instagram corps” with their shiny new kit have been the final barrier, safely at the rear.
