I mean Syrians have had to endure 14 years of war. A perceivable end to said war must be an intensely emotional thing.

That being said, the rebels are what westerners would normally call a terrorist group with links to Al Qaida/ISIS and whatever groups there are in the ME. If Libya is anything to go by, a stable but somewhat unpopular leader gets replaced by extremists and slavery gets reinstated. As long as there is no actual People's movement from Syrians themselves, US proxy terrorists can take over the country and do whatever they want and the joy people feel will be short lived.
