Most of European folklore is just a thinly veiler "Jews are bad." Its just their culture. Reminds me of watching Nosferatu last week and feeling a little weird at seeing such an antisemitic story/character in a modern movie. It's a testament to how authentic it is to the source material, but I'd imagine some sensitive people might be put off by it

I think it actually started out as 'others are bad' and then over time Jewish traits were applied to the stories. A lot of stories are about travelers/gypsies/Romani/etc. being evil, not Jewish immigrants.

You're kidding right? Also, the bulk of the people in North America have European roots, so they'd have the same culture since they share the folklore.
