I think it's a stretch to call this a 'confirmed' 'detection' of cosmic strings, just a very interesting visual that could either be gravitational lensing around such a string, or a pair of galaxies that happen to bear near-identical spectral compositions. It's even mentioned in the article that there was no direct detection of strings in the study, just that a string is one possible explanation for the observation looking the way it does. It's very cool and promising, don't get me wrong, but this article title is another case of science journalism sensationalizing a claim that warrants further investigation before drawing a conclusion.
