I know it's not what's going on in this thread but man this was a pretty common scam on reddit for the last few years I was on it (so it's probably still happening over there). OP would post a shirt or mug or whatever related to a sub and someone in the comments would ask where to get it, then another account would come in with a link (sometimes to like amazon, sometimes to a sketchy or dropship site).
Cool when it happens for real like here, but I'll be sad when lemmy gets big enough to attract those accounts.
