and the film is also a giant commercial for eugenics which trump seems to be in favor off too.

not really only that part, and even it was only the first part, it is the intro that as you say is necessary to set up the movie, thereby the whole foundation. sarah z has a great video on it :D

The movie is a satire on commercialism. Do you also think HG Wells' Time Machine is about eugenics?

If you like, ignore the first 4 minutes and assume a virus made everyone stupid. The movie still works and there isn't any further hint of eugenics.

The eugenics angle of Idiocracy is pushed by corporate PR so that companies like Starbucks are not associated with handjobs.

Recognizing a trend versus being a proponent of the most horrible to approach it is an Idiocracy level leap in logic.

Also, President Camacho was supposed to be a caricature of how bad it could get, not an actually better choice.
