I think youโ€™re forgetting he hasnโ€™t always driven for Haas. Heโ€™s been in competitive cars before and still couldnโ€™t produce. Force India, Renault.

I'd say he has an incredible talent to join teams when they're in an uncompetitive slump.

FI and Renault during his tenure were mid-tier at best.

But it's not always a meritocracy. Teams might choose drivers for money, sponsors, marketability, stuff like that.

In fairness, Mercedes wanted him to replace Rosberg but he'd just signed with another team, Renault maybe.
