As a reminder, in US law it's generally illegal to set up deathtraps to catch people who could only get in the trap by breaking the law.

"You did something illegal!" is not, in general, a justification for murder.

I wonder if Abbott will insist that the judiciary has no authority over the 80% of the barrier that is actually on the Mexican side of the border?

He'll simultaneously argue that the court doesn't have jurisdiction outside the US, but also that as Governor of Texas he does somehow

I can agree with that. Punishments should be proportionate to the crime. Killing should only be done in self-defense as a last resort.
