This was always one of my biggest gripes with reddit. It always astonished me to see someone posting about a topic you personally knew a ton about and how they were just completely wrong. It's really easy to do a Google search and get a surface level bit of knowledge about a topic and then present yourself as an expert. Combined that with the reddit hive mind and you'd see some of the dumbest shit upvoted and likely accepted as fact by tons of people.
