Lula campaigned last year with pledges to rein in illegal logging and undo the environmental devastation under former President Jair Bolsonaro.

This is 100% good news. It's easy to get caught up in the gloom of knowing that the amount of deforested land is still increasing, but it's good to focus on the positives. It's easy to get depressed about what is happening to the world, and that helps no-one. This is good news - we should applaud it and feel slightly happier.

66% is a large percentage and over the last few years we've lost a ton of rain forest.
