I think the mangaka said it's never happening. He simply doesn't want it to become that commercialized. A japanese Bill Watterson, I guess.

Same mangaka as Azumanga Daiou…

Maybe he changed his tune after Azumanga got famous, but he’s no Bill Watterson.
