It's scheduled for removal from the tree. Not being maintained upstream iirc.

If you sync and emerge pretend, you'll likely see the message. It provides some alternatives.

Does neofetch need to be maintained? Doesn't it just do all that it needs to do?

Perhaps for now. In the future, libraries that read hardware info may change, and then it will stop working.

Either way, it'll be removed from the main tree.
