In general I agree but the transparency level shown by the Cities Skylines 2 team has me rethinking this.
I agree but there is no benefit of preording the game. Wait the release date, buy it, try it for 2 hours, then refund it / keep it.
There are benefits a lot of the time, don't lie. What's typical are exclusive cosmetics, closed beta access, and/or early release access. So weighing those against the worst case scenario of returning the game for a full refund makes it a decent deal.
Loosing the opportunity to refund the game to get a flashy skin and 2 days early access are a big NOP for me.
