Geography is just physics slowed down, with a couple of trees stuck in it. - Terry Pratchett

Notice Board

Geography is the study of places and the relationships between people and their environments. Geographers explore both the physical properties of Earth’s surface and the human societies spread across it. They also examine how human culture interacts with the natural environment and the way that locations and places can have an impact on people. Geography seeks to understand where things are found, why they are there, and how they develop and change over time. Read more...

Stop eating fish

I mean did you try not eating fish to stop the fishing.

[–] davepleasebehave@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I stopped eating fish to reduce the over all consumption of fish. yes.

I don't really understand your point.

If I am not buying fish then even by a miniscule amount the demand has decreased.

scale it up and you have your answer.

The point is that there are 8 billion people on the planet, and no amount of personal responsibility will resolve the problem. Legislation and enforcement are the only way to resolve this issue.

[–] davepleasebehave@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why not both? But in the meantime, I'm going to deny my money to the industry.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's great! Keep up the good fight. But unfortunately we need a more robust solution to actually solve the problem.

[–] davepleasebehave@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Until you come up with a more robust solution I would recommend removing your capital from the system that is destroying the world.

Cheers!

if the global fishing hasn't decreased due to your tactic, then another tactic might be necessary

stopping people from fishing. you could take their nets or boats or sabotage them somehow. protest on the dock so they can't go fishing. I'm sure you can come up with something that's effective.

[–] davepleasebehave@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

you are welcome to do that. some of it is illegal.

I'm happy to remove my capital and boycot the system.

Boycotts have traditionally been both ridiculed and effective.
