Beehaw's community for socialists, communists, anarchists, and non-authoritarian leftists (this means anti-capitalists) of all stripes. A place for all leftist and labor news and discussion, as long as you're nice about it.

Non-socialists are welcome to come to learn, though it's hard to get to in-depth discussions if the community is constantly fighting over the basics. We ask that non-socialists please be respectful and try not to turn this into a "left vs right" debate forum by asking leading questions or by trying to draw others into a fight.

Today was the start of open enrollment at my company (US) for insurance and it has reminded me just how painful it is to think about what a scam health insurance is in my country.

I had heard that if you want something done right, do it yourself. So, to that end...

Health Insurance Cooperatives.

Is that a thing?

I live in the Pacific Northwest and I would think that if anywhere had such a thing it would be here (I'm biased, of course).

I'd love to hear people's thoughts and experiences on the subject.

Anything to avoid forking over my (or me employer's) money to the medical-industrial complex to make some assholes rich.

Yes. There are religious ones. They have terrible reputations. Cost sharing ministries, or something.

I'll watch this later, but woof. It's not looking good already 😂
