I found this sociology textbook that has unquoted similar text. https://online.flipbuilder.com/jeru/zjef/index.html#p=60

I think one book plagiarized the other.

Or it could be a different edition. Is the image supposed to convey that kids use slang? And is that supposed to be some sort of revelation?

More reasonable and more likely explanation. I wonder if they got rid of the image or added it in a new edition.
