Nearby Share is a very apt name - it basically describes exactly what the entire point of it is. You can use it to quickly (and easily) share stuff between Android phones, regardless of maker. And starting today, you can use it to share files between Windows PCs and Android devices.

friendly reminder that KDE Connect is a thing, and that it works between multiple platforms and lets you do much more than just copy the files over the network.

And it is open-source, and not dependent on Google who might just kill this feature in the future anyway.

I like the idea but I could never get KDE connect to work over VPN :(

works fine with Mullvad for me, I just had to enable "local network sharing" in Mullvad app's settings. using split tunneling to exclude KDE Connect from routing through VPN would most likely work, too.

so does that mean that the connection between your phone and PC (for example) established by KDE connect can be seen by your ISP?
