why would any advanced race expend resources to come visit a type 0 "civilization" of malevolent primates torturing and manipulating one another

Idk ask Jane Goodall. People do it, why wouldn't "space people?"

Gorillas (and bonobos) are gentle, quite unlike humans. Baboons are a better analogue.
