A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The best ones are thoughts that many people can relate to and they find something funny or interesting in regular stuff.

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. Avoid politics (NEW RULE as of 5 Nov 2024, trying it out)

i’m doing it because I want to make the fediverse more friendly place, in hopes of making it more welcoming for new users, and the nicer place in general. But I wonder how much is just less bots.

It is hit or miss. I just got into a fight with a MAGA troll claiming that wikipedia vote totals are completely made up. I thought I wouldn't have to deal with stupidity like that on lemmy.

I had a pretty curated feed on reddit where I basically got rid of most subs that allowed toxicity. So I've actually noticed more toxicity since the switch. But I've also noticed that posts have more of a personal vibe hear that I'm all for.

I've generally found that avoiding the biggest crowds seems to also avoid some (though not all) of the worst behavior. More specialized subreddits, communities, and magazines tend to be more chill, and also more focused on their topics.
