brick is also used as an insult in drag, i.e. “she looks like a total brick. her makeup and outfit are obviously terrible.”

but they meant it as in brick like in basketball as to miss a shot, i.e “you totally bricked that shot, you scrub”

to further explain: it specifically hails from street ball courts, often wedged between urban apartment buildings, which were often brick buildings. "bricking" is shooting a shot so wild as to miss the backboard completely and hit the brick building behind the court.

I always thought it was because the shot was thrown like a brick, meaning with a poor arc to the basket. The ball can't make it through the hoop easily without a high arc on the shot.
