Wheel weights. Their wheels will be unbalanced, meaning their steering will vibrate at certain speeds, depending on what the new balance is.

It’s not unsafe per se, at least not primarily. It’s annoying as fuck tho.

Holy shit my brother I had seen these things for years, thrown in the ground and always figured they had something to do with cars, only didn't know WHAT. you sir have scratched that mental itch and my brain lobes are forever thankful

Hahaha no worries!

Is that literally why they exist? To fuck with people?

They are used to balance tires, but only one or a few in the right locations.

Nope. If you walk past cars you will often see this.

My car has a few one one of the rims

Haha no, wheels and tires can't be produced balanced consistently. So after the tire is put on the wheel, you put those weights on to balance them.

Oh shit. I had an old beater that would shake apart at certain rpms. It was a hand me down that I drove into the ground and didn't spend money on, so I never got it inspected. Didn't know the solution was so easy.

You could randomly stick weights on it and slowly figure out of if you really wanted to.

To balance a tire properly you need a bubble balancer.
