An online space for the vegans of Lemmy.

Rules and miscellaneous:

  1. We take for granted that if you engage in this community, you understand that veganism is about the animals. You either are vegan for the animals, or you are not (this is not to say that discussions about climate/environment/health are not allowed, of course)
  2. No omni/carnist apologists. This is not a place where to ask to be hand-holded into veganims. Omnis coddling/backpatting is not tolerated, nor are /r/DebateAVegan-like threads
  3. Use content warnings and NSFW tags for triggering content
  4. Circlejerking belongs to /c/vegancirclejerk
  5. All posts should abide by Lemmy's Code of Conduct

I had cheese put into my food before, but now I was given meat-meat and not only once but twice (different places).

It wasn't even by people not understanding what veganism is, it was just a very blatant swap.

Sure, I got money back, but I'm wondering: has the acceptance of vegans gone down and malice towards us gone up? I would've thought it would've gotten better over time.

I'm asking because I'm so far removed from the vegan community I forget I'm vegan because the store being "empty" for me is the norm, as is checking labels etc; I've no clue whether other vegans are facing similar issues as of late.

i just envy you being in an area where you can tell people you're vegan and they know how to maliciously target you based on it. where i live "vegan" may as well not be a word, because I have to go back and forth with them about "no, i dont eat fish either. yes, butter is an animal product. right, so is milk. yes, cheese is also the same thing. yes, even skim milk. no, almond milk is made of almonds and those arent animals. ah, you'd think I would eat that, but for some reason they put a dye made of bugs in it."
