IIRC, You should be able to drag a recipe over into the crafting simulator or look it up in the crafting simulator and create/save a rotation in the crafting simulator. Then back on the resource gathering/list screen apply it and look at it applied to other things at a glance. You could also look into community crafting rotations and save one from there for that feature in the gathering/list screen

This is where I am stuck. I was told to try that last blue button on the left. Rotation finder. I get this. I am trying a very basic recipe, iron hatchet.

The rotation finder works by using other people's published rotations when crafting an item of comparable difficulty, with an optional toggle to also allow rotations by people with stats better than yours.

As with your example, you may find that it's not very helpful at lower levels. There are a couple basic reasons for this: changes in crafting actions each expansion invalidate older rotations that people don't bother to update, and older crafts from ARR have less well defined difficulty tiers to accurately compare to.

My recommendation would be to give it a go manually. Plug in your stats into the simulator and then try to build a basic sequence that has 100% HQ reliability (or as close to it as you can get with your stats).

If you are looking to level up crafting quickly and want a consistent experience, and if you are already through the main story of Heavensward, you can also give Ishgardian Restoration a try. Teamcraft also has a guides section for leveling crafters with other suggestions created by folks from The Balance discord, which can also provide a lot more information.
