Actually though I don't understand wireless charging. You get slower, less efficient charging in exchange for what? Like two seconds saved by not having to plug it in? You can't even use it while it's charging.
The only real positive is not wearing out the charge port and being able to charge even with a broken port
Currently the reason I have a wireless charger.
The alternative was buying a new phone.
Have you tried cleaning out your charging port? Fixed my broken USB-C port.
I have had to carefully scoop out dust etc from my phones usbc port. (I did it with the sim tray ejector)
Just be careful not to scratch the connector in the center
live local phone repair shop reaction:
(unless whatever anti repair bs your phone manufacturer pulled off made the cost of repair higher than buying a new phone, in which case shame on the phone manufacturer)
Anti repair bs is exactly why. By policy the store would have to replace the screen and case as well.
The charging port itself was completely shot and needed to be replaced, I figured a $20 charger was the better choice.
Some phones have the port on a daughterboard for relatively cheap replacement, but some have it straight on the mainboard.
If you put wireless chargers in your usual phone drop spots, you never have to think about charging again. A different habit takes care of it. That's the appeal. I prefer a 2m charging cable to charge while using my phone, but my drop zone is in my pocket, so not appealing for me either 🤷♂️
Handy in a car i guess 🤔
Able type of good use for worked charging is for devices that don't move much or often. Things like wireless keyboards and mice. Wireless chargers allow you to basically never worry about battery life. And you can hide the cables with a little tinkering.
Or you could use one of these fancy battery-less keyboards and mice.
I want a wireless charger because I only charge my phone at night when I sleep so I don't care how fast it charges and the wire is difficult because I knock stuff off my table with it
Call me a conspiracy theorist but as a repair technician that works on phones "wireless charging" is a great excuse to have a glass back on the phone. A glass back that breaks very easily and is extremely expensive (therefore lucrative) to repair.
Most phones (all of Apples) require you to entirely gut the phone with it's dozens of components, screws, cables and many of which are strongly glued in requiring risky prying and pulling. All to then implant all of the components to a new chassis and do it all in reverse.
My charging port is fucked on mine that's why i use it. My night stand is also a full top wireless charging so simply setting it down anywhere it will charge. So in a way it's extremely convenient. As for efficiency i could care less. I have cheap power and the loss from wireless charging is lets be honest isn't going to show up on your electric bill anyways 🤷
Two reasons for me, but they’re mainly because of the MagSafe:
Of course it has its drawbacks, but this assumes that I need to use my phone all the time (no), I can’t spare even 5 minutes to not charge, or that I need to top up from 10% to 100% in 5 minutes for some reason, which I don’t. If I do, then sure, I use the cable. Through the past year, I needed to charge my phone through the cable maybe twice.
MagSafe charges super fast and it magnetizes to the back of your phone. Much better than using a port that can wear out over time. Plus, you can rest your phone on your chest while laying down, even if it’s charging. I wasn’t convinced of wireless charging until I got a 15w MagSafe charger.
Magsafe has a 15 watt limit. Compare this to the 12 Watts you could get from an old non-fast charger, and the 45-100 Watts you can get from a modern fast charger. Also factor in that Magsafe is inefficient and creates more waste heat and likely throttles charging as a result.
Meanwhile you're killing the battery with the extra heat.
Also the lighting port is pretty darn durable, and I've had no major issues with USB-C disability either.
It’s still faster than non-fast charging. Fast charging also creates way more heat, so your battery killer argument seems a bit moot. You also ignored the most important part of being able to rest it on your chest while charging it, lol. I’ll give it to you that the ports are quite durable.
While I wouldn't buy one for my phone, my mouse is loading wireless since I can't be bothered to plug and unlpug it every time I game.
Well I sometimes even can't place the mouse on the right spot, but it is only a light movement
