I was trying to learn c++ there was this really great and free site. I decided to turn ads on for them since everything was high quality and free.
There were a few ads that played, but they changed every few minutes. The ads were not the same width, so they they changed they pushed the text around.
So in the middle of reading all the text would jump around and make you lose your place.
It basically made their site completely unusable.
Website has a link to a Reddit post which is just a link to YouTube. How many jumps did I need to make to watch the video at the source?😂
So would this mean that cpus would not generate heat?
Would smartphone battery life skyrocket?
Can someone breakdown how this would affect computing?
Some time ago people merged contributing to society and being productive with work.
Work is doing something for money, but there are things I would do for free if I didn’t need to earn money to survive.
Teaching, community gardens, organizing social events. These are all things I’d love to do but I have to work like 50 hours a week to survive and safe for the future.
I can’t even view it on mobile without logging in or getting an app.
He seems desperate to make Reddit work. It seems that he can’t take the ego hit to back pedal his decision and is trying to figure out a way forward.
That’s a big nope for me.
Internet goes out? I can still do some amount of work, now I need power and internet to both work to do any work at all.
Not a fan of this and I will not embrace it.
Being a baby. What do they even know?
Reddit declined to comment
I am guessing their comment would be something like, "FUCK!!!!!!"
I am so happy to see people coming together and moving away from commercial platforms. It feels silly to say it, but it seems like it is a step in the right direction. It is technological and social progress. Decentralization is a really fantastic tool and it seems to be a system that cannot be controlled internally or externally. Mastodon has been great, and I expect Lemmy to be even better.
To anyone reading, if you have any extra cash, look into making a small donation to your instance. The people running it are not just putting in time, they are likely paying hundreds a month to rent server space.
Once, Apollo shuts down, this site will get hit hard. I look forward to it and want to make as many posts as I can to increase the level of activity.
The fediverse makes the internet feel more alive than ever.
It feels less mindless scrolling and more interaction.
