People's politics do tend to age badly, but this is a Kanye level face turn

Yeah. Son of a Black Panther, wanted to join but couldn't at the time, and was in the Communist Party for a while before he died, and, in my opinion, he got got by the FBI, tbh.

Before October 7, I was just starting to read a book where the author made this argument. Tupac was assassinated because he had cross demographic appeal on top of being a radical. He was someone white people were cool with while at the same time had enough street cred to broker a ceasefire between rival LA gangs. He was a communist and pan-Africanist. His generation was supposed to be the one to pick up the torch after the BPP, and his assassination was a dramatic means of severing the connection between the radicalism of the 60s and the present.
