Unfortunately simplex uses way too much battery on my unisoc tablet. It is also still quite high on an older qualcomm phone. Is there room for improvement with updates or is this the limitation of lower end hardware?

Hello, is the network connection to the SimpleX network made same way as in Session messenger (single point of failure in the form of several seed/bootstrap nodes "hardocded" in the client software, the nodes which hostnames/IPs can be blocked on ISP/government firewalls) ?

If you know any detail on how it works, please link. Thank you

Hi everyone.

I'm curious to understand what could happened to simpleX if the new "security" plan in EU gets voted?

Because I'm not versed enough with the political and legal wording in thoses papers I've got a hard time to actually understand.

  • Will simpleX be obligated to comply?
  • Will simpleX retire from EU?
  • Would It be illegal to use simpleX if the bill passes?
  • Could we still use simpleX with a proxy/VPN from a country outside of EU?
  • ...

I'm genuinely concerned about what I'm reading here and there on lemmy... I hope someone could give me some interesting point of view.

Thanks.

Hi all! I’m working on my cyber security bachelor’s thesis and am reaching out to gather insights from users who use decentralized messaging applications.

I would be incredibly thankful if you could find the 2 to 4 minutes to fill out the form. Your experience in the matter is incredibly valuable.

You’ll find the survey at https://questionnaire.ink/412758

Your responses are confidential and will be used solely for supporting my thesis. No personally identifiable information is collected.

Thanks!

To the developer working on SimpleX,

Why are you still using Microsoft Github ? (and by extend Reddit ! )

I had myself a question for the maintainers. I was planning to use the discussions and to do so, create an account :'( But it seem that Microsoft really doesn't like Tor:

Cheers.

Hi,

I've just tested SimpleX. Great piece of software, all the options are really well thought ...

Sadly it's not P2P (all the messages pass by servers... ) is there a way to make-it P2P ?

Thanks.

Does anyone know why every release is not available through F-Droid? For example F-Droid has version 5.5.2 and the latest stable is 5.5.5. In the buildlog it looks like F-Droid gets the soirce code for every release. It assume it is not successfully compiled in order for it to never end up being released.

The talk was made when v5.2 was the latest, with lots of progress since:

  • local file encryption
  • desktop client
  • using mobile from desktop etc.

Thank you!

As far as I understand it, the relay servers only hold the messages until they are delivered, but what happens if they can never get delivered? Does the server just endlessly accumulate these messages in limbo, and never purge them, or are they on a timer? Even if they are on a timer, if a group chat with one abandoned user has a large enough volume of messages, they could theoretically overwhelm the server's storage.

Update

I have received an official response on this from the SimpleX Chat team:

the servers hold the messages for 21 days if they are not received

You can search for public groups via the experimental SimpleX Directory Service: connect to it via this address.

Mobile apps public beta v5.3 are released:

  • delivery receipts
  • new layout in groups
  • new UX for incognito mode
  • etc.

Desktop app beta is now usable, please try it: https://github.com/simplex-chat/simplex-chat/releases/tag/v5.3.0-beta.5

Greetings. I exported my data from my iOS device and then put it in the default directory in Windows. When I run the simplex-chat command I get this error, what is the reason?
