There's a Black Mirror episode about that!

Basically the title. I decided that I don't want to support !memes@lemmy.ml where every third post is a hateful communist "meme" that even communists can't find funny and where admins tolerate memes about how it's ok to shoot people with certain opinions and, similar things. There are some great memes however, and I'm not sure if it's good to repost them here. What's the stance of this community about that?

Hi, I've been thinking for a few days whether I should learn Docker or Podman. I know that Podman is more FOSS and I like it more in theory, but maybe it's better to start with docker, for which there is a lot more tutorials. On the other hand, maybe it's better to straight up learn podman when I don't know any of the two and not having to change habits later. What do you think? For context, I know how containers works in theory, I know some linux I think well, but I never actually used docker nor podman. In another words: If I want to eventually end up with Podman, is it easier to start with docker and then learn Podman, or start with Podman right away? Thanks in advance

Hi. I have a category Little Tech Blogs in my rss reader where I put those cool niche blogs mostly about Linux, FOSS, programming, etc... Many of them I found by articles linked in this community, so I was wondering if you guys know about more blogs like that. By little I mean it's run by one person or a small group of people, no big website publishing daily content - it can be two articles a year. The criteria isn't necessarily strict - any blog that the Linux people finds interesting is worth checking for me :)

Here is a list of feeds that I already have:

You can disable the feature, it's called something like near device discovery. Also check this cool app that lets you spoof those devices and spam the suggestions.

these are save and trusted open-source scripts to activate windows for free using various methods.

Please provide a source for posts like this. Not that I don't believe it is probably true, but there's lots of similar fake stuff on the internet and nobody should believe that somebody said something just because it was written on an image.

Why not just post the comics on the website like every other comic author does. Even this comic is normally posted on the workchronicles.com website, but for some reason, the author added this to the website:

📣 ANNOUNCING

NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER!

For the entire month of November, the comics will be posted only on my Email Newsletter.

Join now. It’s free!

Stopping posting on website and posting only in newsletter, which many people including me find extremely annoying and not the right tool for the job, can't be excused by distancing from twitter or reddit.

The message at the bottom sounds like pretty shitty move.

Why not? It always seemed to me like a lot of duplicated work to package everything on every distro.

Hi. I've been using powerlevel10k for a long time, but a few days ago, I decided I wanted to customize it a bit. I opened the .p10k.zsh file, and I was shocked. It's really massive, with TONS of options. I've been digging through for a few hours already, and it's absolutely amazing how much you can customize it without actually programming anything. I was wondering what other people are using. So my questions are:

  • Do you customize your shell prompt?
  • If yes, do you use some framework or pre-made theme, or do you just configure it the vanilla way in your bashrc/zshrc/...
  • How is your experiences with it so far?
  • Share screenshot of your prompts, please (Sadly, my prompt is currently half done, so I can't really share it)

These are some of my essential Android apps. It's a lot, but I couldn't decide which ones are less essential, sorry. All of them are FOSS and can be found on F-Droid or IzzyOnDroid (F-Droid compatible) repos

  • Neo Store is my favorite F-Droid client (F-Droid is essential, but the official app sucks IMO)
  • Aegis is a great 2FA authentication app
  • AirGuard if you think you might be a victim of AirTag stalking
  • AShell (requires Shizuku) for ADB access without computer (you need to be on wifi tho)
  • CloudStream when you are too broke to afford 10 subscription-based streaming services
  • echo unmaintained but I was unable to find any alternative. It records in the background and keeps the last N minutes in memory. You can save last X minutes as mp3 whenever you want.
  • feeder is a great RSS reader
  • Inner Tune best YT Music client on F-Droid IMO (I tested all of them I could find few weeks ago)
  • KDE Connect - connects you Android phone with your PC
  • KryptEY might be useful if EU bans encryption
  • libretorrent best torrent app on Android I have used
  • Translate You translator app supporting many sources
  • unexpected keyboard is my favorite for writing terminal commands in Termux or programming
  • Voice is the must have for localy downloaded audiobooks
  • YTDLnis is very cool yt-dlp GUI full of features + can be set as downloader app in ReVanced settings
  • and the best of all: Termux - Linux terminal on your Android
  • bonus: zotify (website) is the only Spotify downloader I know about that actually downloads from Spotify (!). It's a command line app. It can be pretty easily installed in Termux though and usage is not very difficult if you are familiar with the command line. Please read the README. I personally love it.

Yes, but people find this interesting because historically, Microsoft was actively trying to destroy Linux (look up Halloween documents) and even said that Linux is cancer.

Use something FOSS.
