feddit.uk, feddit.de, feddit.nl, a different one? Who came up with the name "Feddit" for federated Reddit?

feddit.uk was registered last June, just like feddit.nl. Feddit.de was changed in August 2021. Unless the domains were transferred, feddit.de is the oldest

Concerning feddit.nl, I can confirm it was set up at the beginning of June. Since it's my instance ๐Ÿ˜…

I have to ask: why so many European country specific feddit instances?

[โ€“] tedvdb@feddit.nl 20 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)
  • more instances are better from a federation point of view
  • might have to do with that almost every country had their own language and culture
[โ€“] SorteKanin@feddit.dk 11 points 6 months ago

Why not? To discuss stuff in the local language and discuss local news obviously. A local instance makes sense for that. Also allows you to place the server close by the country so that you get low latency.

Why ? Don't you geddit ? :) (Guess cause languages and dialects)

[โ€“] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 months ago

We have more cultures, languages, and national identities clustered in Europe than anywhere else in the world. Naturally people want an instance for their own.

Oh, right, I misread the registration date, plus you obviously know more about it than me ๐Ÿ˜…

Who came up with the name "Feddit" for federated Reddit?

Everybody. Everybody who thinks of the concept of federated reddit instantly comes up with the name feddit

[โ€“] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Ah, but only I came up with "Rederated"

[โ€“] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 6 months ago

Ruh-roh raggy!

I immediately came up with the name "poop wagon shit horse" but nobody wanted to join.

Well, Mastodon instances usually aren't called Fitter or Fex.

[โ€“] booty@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago

because "itter" does not share any sounds with "federated" the way "eddit" does

Feddit.dk started in April last year so slightly before most of the others, though feddit.de takes the crown.
