I can’t see why this setup wouldn’t work. I do favour a max of 36T with a smaller chainring up front. The shorter cage derailleur you can have the better. What you have here will work with a narrow wide chainring. You can space the BB for chainline :)

I have done this kind of thing before. Grab a 32T hollow tech single ring crankset, hollow tech BB and something like a 10 speed 12-32 or 12-36 cassette. This means you can use a better derailleur and better quality cassette (both being cheaper than if you bought 42t) and still be able to climb walls :)
Do you think I would have an issue with a crazy chainline with something like this or should it all work fine? The long cage derailleur is good for up to 46 and the 36t in the front will give me a least a LITTLE speed in the flats.
