nearly 16 are now "infected" I've been studying this thing for like 2 years, my scientist mentioned they could "solve" it some time ago. But now even they have been adding to the garden. I'm wondering if my curiosity has doomed them all.

So I seemed to have found a loophole for the negative effect that happens if you destroy the cube. I had ONE colonist who wasn't affected, so I drafted everyone else, put them in their rooms, locked the door so the one person unaffected would be the sole owner, and planned to just... Ride it out. But it seems like if they're asleep when the cube is destroyed, they don't actually get the mental break. They slept through it, and woke up the next morning like nothing happened. No crazy obsessions and now I have the most beautiful room in the Rim from all the sculptures lol

Could be just mod fuckery; I do have the "sleep it off" option ticked on Common Sense. But its not prevented other moods from happened due to the consequences of an action.
