This was an interesting read, and led me to try to track down some of the texts mentioned. Unfortunately I couldn't find the one the author seemed to enjoy most (Art of Conversation by Milton Wright) outside of the Internet Archive which does let you borrow it for a couple weeks.

However, I was easily able to find some of Carnegie's works, which incidentally seem like they might offer some advice to help some lurkers feel more comfortable posting, e.g. The Art of Public Speaking by Dale Carnegie, 1915 edition or How to Develop Self-Confidence and Influence People by Public Speaking by Dale Carnegie, 1956 Pocket Book edition.
