Hello all,

Just wondering if there are any projects involving lemmy and .onion

I searched and didn't see anything but I figured I'd ask

If not is there a reason this isn't possible? Or has nobody cared to do it yet?

When I have to visit r****t I use a libreddit hidden service, and there are quite a few to choose from. Am I correct to think a similar mirror should be about as easy to implement for Lemmy?

an onion only instance where it never touches the clearnet would be really cool too but it would probably be a ghost town (sadly).

Love to hear your thoughts

Thanks

Bumped. Especially since LW disallows sign-ups without emails, and doesn't accept throwaway emails either.

Doesn't it also use cloudflare? I would avoid that if possible

I have hated Cloudflare for years since coming across their MiTM tactics. Real burn with the "more competent admins" LMAO. I'm thinking of switching instances and maybe even donating time/money into infosec.pub, definitely my kind of instance.

Also, it is hilarious how people on Lemmy just think of Cloudflare as the default and down vote anything against it. In an analogy, that's as bad as calling Microsoft's practices elegant with respect to Linux (exaggerated). I have downvoted a lot when I asked about avoiding Cloudflare with another alt.

Got you. Yeah I'm not a fan either.

Just FYI my instance accepts onionmail, I only log in over tor.

I believe dbzer0 does as well (as well as infosec as you mentioned)

Can I get a blog post on how you did it? I'd like to have a onion address for my Lemmy instance!

I didn't do anything except ask for it, sorry didn't mean to suggest otherwise.

Its a shame its just the frontend not the full service behind hidden service not really much point in using a hidden services in this regard unfortunatly.

Hey, one step at a time.

There are thousands of really cool hidden service sites with 0 users, I don't think lemmy is at a point where splintering would be wise.

If such an instance existed I would be a big fan though.
