I love that everyone is just suggesting Peertube, the only one OP has specifically said they don't want to use π

But what about peertube?
I've heard lots of good things about it in this thread about someone wanting an alternative to it!
Amended title: give me a good alternative to YouTube and peertube.
The only thing that comes to mind is PeerTube. Iβve never used it, but Iβve seen it suggested a few times in the privacy community.
I want to just upload Linux videos and not require someone's approval like TILvids, what platform inside peertube should I use
I personally used dalek.zone, no video approval necessary. Though I probably needed to get my account approved, not sure.
thank you! that's all I wanted!
hey just curious, if I upload a video in there, will it remain forever? As in, I can't delete it because it's part of lbry network now? I have heard something like that about odysee.com
You can delete videos on Peertube. They're stored on the server the same way YouTube etc. do it. The difference is just that the Peertube servers federate with each other like Lemmy does.
nice thank you!
I don't think there is a platform that is on the level of YouTube, be it FOSS or not. They are still too strong as of now.
PeerTube in general is the best alternative so far. TILvids is an example of a PeerTube instance, but PeerTube is federated just like Lemmy here, so you can find a different instance if you don't like TILvids, or even host your own if you want! I don't know the best instance for you off the top of my head though, I just use TILvids as well, which works fine for me as just a viewer.

An alternative frontend for LBRY/Odysee. Inspired by Invidious and Libreddit. https://codeberg.org/librarian/librarian
The page has a list of working instances.
Do you want to host the videos on your own server? A quick Google search turned up https://datarhei.com/. I'm sure there are many, many other options.
Otherwise you need to host on someone else's server. Here's my advice:
-
Forget FOSS. What software your host runs is not important. The only lock-in is video discovery, and FOSS doesn't really help.
-
Someone is paying. Either you (e.g. Wistia), big tech + viewers (e.g. YouTube) or some poor volunteer/donor (PeerTube). You need to decide which is less problematic.
If you need a video "platform" where users organically discover your content... That's another question
IDK its playing on me. Meanwhile have you tried Peertube? https://joinpeertube.org/tr
