This is honestly an entirely valid complaint. There are way too many motorcyclists who replace their mufflers with aftermarket ones that are illegally loud, in some cases loud enough to cause hearing damage to pedestrians.

[โ€“] Taleya@aussie.zone 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They just need to keep defect ticket histories.

Third strike for the same defect on the same vehicle, you lose it. Fuck this 'keeping a stock spare and swapping it in' shit.

[โ€“] Laser@feddit.org 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why so soft?

The vehicle seems to loud -> perform a check -> if it is too loud, confiscate to have it examined and fine the driver -> if vehicle is found to have been tampered with using illegal parts, don't return it and fine some more

Then bring it back into a legal state and auction it off anonymously

Incorporate noise muffler noise into hoon laws. Instant motorcycle crushing.

I have a performance exhaust on my bike. It comes with a decibel reducer which I keep on for daily use, and remove for road trips. Making noise in urban areas is a 100% dick move.

As a friend likes to say: " Look! there goes a son of a bitch riding a noise"

[โ€“] Sasha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 months ago

I love it, I doubt I'll ever get another bike but if I do that's a great thing to know about.

Used to ride before arthritis took it. Fuck loud pipes, they don't help you enough to justify the social burden if they ever help you at all.

I don't ride either anymore, but it's not that hard to just cover the horn while you're around more dicey situations. I loved my CBR500 because it actually sounded like a car horn.

[โ€“] herrvogel@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

But loud pipes save lives. When a buddy of mine died some years back, doctors said it was because he'd neglected to ear-rape his entire neighborhood while pulling into the garage at midnight.

I once wanted a Harley. The name was synonymous with manliness and freedom.

Now I see that they only have the image of manliness, and the owners are people who need to be assured that they are manly.

If I ride again, I'm getting an electric bike.

Manliness lol.

Tiny peen industry.

[โ€“] ikidd@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Harley is synonymous with middle-age accountant weekend warrior.

this is one very efficient litmus paper for identifying assholes

"let me ear rape a thousand pedestrians today and not feel a single drop of shame about it"

Meh, this is our life on Enmore Rd in Sydney on Friday and Saturdays nights until the early morning. Not sure if it's already been designated an entertainment precinct but it's meant to be. For some reason that attracts people with loud cars and bikes.

[โ€“] MisterFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don't think any zoning laws anywhere in Australia would allow for this on public roads.

Happy to be corrected, but this shit takes it's toll on everyone else's wellbeing.

When I lived about 5 km from the city (Melbourne), I'd hear some arsehole (cars, as well as bikes) ripping it down the road at least every 20 minutes, all fucking day.

I do not give a shit what your hobbies are, but they had better not be giving me heart disease...

These fuckers deserve to have their bikes/cars confiscated for putting on illegal mods on the second offence. Not per vehicle, per fucking lifetime.

You get one chance, then you had better start keeping receipts so you never have an illegal mod ever again...

Just a heads up, there is a seven day delay with comments federating between lemmy.world and aussie.zone. You'll get this reply in a week!

[โ€“] MisterFrog@aussie.zone 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ah heck, thanks for the tip. That's not terribly convenient ๐Ÿ˜…

Apparently there is a fix in the works and I think it's gonna be in the next release. Anyway, now you know until then to use your az account when commenting/replying on/to az account posts/comments for quicker replies from az folk!

FYI: on YouTube links, only the first part of the link is needed. The question mark and everything after it is tracking data that identifies your account. You can delete the question mark and everything after it; your link will still work, but you won't be feeding them tracking data when we click on it.

[โ€“] No1@aussie.zone 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Nearly.

There are multiple forms of YouTube links. Eg, for me, the above resolves to https://m.youtube.com/watch?si=MaumrkrJUYQAbdxy&v=ylhsbfQTPDQ&feature=youtu.be

The ?v=randomstuff is required. Anytime you see si=blahblah, or anything else, it is not required

[โ€“] jimcullen@twit.social 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

@No1 @Rivalarrival yes, please. Always remove the si tracking bs.

[โ€“] spiffmeister@aussie.zone 1 points 2 months ago

There's an android app called URLCheck that can strip unwanted bits off the end of urls and then open them as well.

[โ€“] IntangibleSloth@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

Thanks, friend!

[โ€“] daveoss@aussie.zone 2 points 2 months ago

Same with all those stupid crackle tunes. I done see how it is compliant to ADR rules as they prescribe total noise limits ar certain RPM.

[โ€“] pHr34kY@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Permitted noise should be inversely proportional to vehicle size (and legally, it kinda is). Too many idiots on the road that can't see over their own bonnet.

Also, get off reddit. Especially that shithole of a sub. It's probably full of drongos who take 2.5 tonne utes into school dropoff zones.
