What is Neurodivergence?

It's ADHD, Autism, OCD, schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, bi-polar, aspd, etc etc etc etc

“neurologically atypical patterns of thought or behavior”

So, it’s very broad, if you feel like it describes you then it does as far as we're concerned

Rules

1.) ableist language=post or comment will probably get removed (enforced case by case, some comments will be removed and restored due to complex situations). repeated use of ableist language=banned from comm and possibly site depending on severity. properly tagged posts with CW can use them for the purposes of discussing them

2.) always assume good faith when dealing with a fellow nd comrade especially due to lack of social awareness being a common symptom of neurodivergence

2.5) right to disengage is rigidly enforced. violations will get you purged from the comm. see rule 3 for explanation on appeals

3.) no talking over nd comrades about things you haven't personally experienced as a neurotypical chapo, you will be purged. If you're ND it is absolutely fine to give your own perspective if it conflicts with another's, but do so with empathy and the intention to learn about each other, not prove who's experience is valid. Appeal process is like appealing in user union but you dm the nd comrade you talked over with your appeal (so make it a good one) and then dm the mods with screenshot proof that you resolved it. fake screenies will get you banned from the site, we will confirm with the comrade you dm'd.

3.5) everyone has their own lived experiences, and to invalidate them is to post cringe. comments will be removed on a case by case basis depending on determined level of awareness and faith

4.) Interest Policing will not be tolerated in any form. Support your comrades in their joy!

I understand the feeling of not fitting into other's expectations, but I still haven't been able to find a place to get tested so I can't share that exact experience. I'm so sorry it's making you feel worse.

meow-hug thank you ❤️❤️❤️

I'd share the link for the person I went to, who is totally online but I think only for patients in Ohio, so probably not helpful to you

if you (or anyone else reading this) are in Ohio and would like the info, please DM me, I'm happy to share.

I really hope it gets better for you somehow.

Ugh, yeah I'm not in OH but thank you. Do you mind sharing how you went about finding them? Like was it a complicated process?

just searching for neurodivergent-friendly therapists and happened upon one who did autism assessments through this directory

Thank you! I'm definitely going to check this out

hope you find someone as lovely as I did. she really was as compassionate and kind as anyone could possibly be, it's just a difficult subject to probe

Highly, highly relate. It feels like I’m always searching to find someone who feels this way. Like in the context of social events, I will always be the one person at the event trying to find the other person (or people) who are also looking as lost as myself. But I truly never can

This thought has been there as early as elementary school basketball tryouts and persisted throughout the entirety of my pathetic existence

!!! so much this. I definitely try to find the other leftover weirdos to befriend, and it is not necessarily a reliable strategy, but it's better than hanging with the normies

it's why I'll probably never entirely give up cigarettes – they're just too useful as a social crutch, which I desperately need

basically the only way I have made friends in my life is spotting the other weirdos and being like hiiii i'm weird too let's be friends :)

and it's worked so far lol

[–] stigsbandit34z@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago

I need to unlock this role

[–] dustbunnies@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago

this is great advice, this strategy has also previously been effective for me

guess I need to be out in more situations where I might run across other weirdos 🤔

[–] stigsbandit34z@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sounds like I ought to pick up cigarettes

do not recommend, I'm a genuine freak who can take them or leave them, I've fucked around with them for decades but have never been a daily smoker, which is exceedingly rare. they ruin most people's lives.

weed is just as good a crutch and less horrifically harmful
