The tick-borne disease has not caused any deaths, health officials say, but people with alpha-gal syndrome have described it as bewildering and terrifying.

Sounds like a machiavellian vegan bioengineering action.

It definite feels like one of those "the earth is trying to heal itself" moments.

Thought the same thing. Honestly less people eating meat wouldn't be the worst thing for the environment.

I cannot wait to see what conspiracies the right wing nutjobs gather from that name.

Imagine being so unhinged you think giving people lyme disease is good

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lyme disease is an unrelated illness lol

[–] Alto@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lyme disease is commonly carried by lone star ticks. You get it the same way you get the red meat allergy.

If you're calling for people to get one, you're calling for them to get the other

maybe we could find something to inject you with that will force you to keep your hateful thoughts to yourself.

Hey, I'd volunteer to get inoculated with the same meat allergy if it makes you bloodmouths feel better.

You are so caught up in your anti meat thing, you want to make people sick? Is it the "hives, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe stomach pain, difficulty breathing, dizziness and swelling of the lips, throat, tongue or eye lids", that you fantasize giving people, or did you like the idea of inflicting symptoms "such as those involving the cardiovascular, nervous, and motor systems. Furthermore, some patients reported a wide range of mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, fatigue, poor memory, irritability, sleep disturbances, etc."

People would stop eating meat if it made them sick. Pretty obvious lol

[–] hootmcgoot@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Got it, you don't mind inflicting pain and suffering or horrible diseases and side effects, as long as is might benefit your personal agenda. You are worse than the people you wish to inflict suffering on.

This reply thread is a perfect incapsulation of Lemmy culture vs. Kbin culture lol

Besides obviously being unable to est meat, how dangerous is the illness.

It makes you allergic to all mammalian meat and potentially other products made from mammals. Outside of the allergic reaction (including anaphylaxis) I wasn't able to find any other negative effects.

oh, I just ran across this:

According to survey results presented at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology's (AAAAI) Annual Meeting, some alpha-Gal Syndrome patients have a wide range of seemingly new symptoms, such as those involving the cardiovascular, nervous, and motor systems. Furthermore, some patients reported a wide range of mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, fatigue, poor memory, irritability, sleep disturbances, etc.
