Brain: Not until you do something worthy of it. Get off your ass and do something!

Me: okay, I'm doing stuff and trying to be productive, where's my dopamine?

Brain: what's dopamine?

[–] HardlightCereal@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

You've got it the wrong way around. Dopamine is the motivation chemical. Serotonin is the satisfaction chemical. You need dopamine before you can do things, and doing things is how you get serotonin.

We see dopamines in rat brains when we give them treats, cause they're gaining motivation to solve more mazes and get more treats.

Me: alright let's get doing then! :)

Brain: lmao nah fuck you

This is a careful reminder to treat yourself well, or your subconscious will hate you... this includes how you think of yourself and the world over a longer period of time. Some patterns are hard to unlearn.

That's important advice.

Your subconscious treats you as you treat yourself, and as you treat others.

Even if you hadn't asked, the answer wouldn't be heroin. Heroin is just the perfect substitute and looks like the answer.

But you asked. You know. Stop pretending.

Try asking your somatic memory instead, it keeps a more accurate long-term record of emotions.

This is one of the reasons the "youre are your brain and you pilot your body like a meat mech" isnt really true. You have limited control over your brain. i have ADHD, i struggle constantly with my brain and usually refer to it like its a seperate human lol

[–] HardlightCereal@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're your prefrontal cortex and you pilot the rest of your brain like a meat mech.

[–] KaleDaddy@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

Its just meat mechs all the way down

[–] UnculturedSwine@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

"Capitalism and absent parents, lol"

  • my brain, probably

Why not use the other, more fitting character in the comic?

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Mental illness can affect anyone, including people you think have it all together.

[–] elbarto777@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

True, true. Insightful. Thanks.

[–] electrogamerman@lemmy.world -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, the white straight hunk man with perfect beard has a lot to deal with. I wonder how he copes.

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

dude, we all have brains, even the most handsome of people have them you know

mental health issues don't discriminate. It's not to say other people don't struggle but it's not bloody pain olympics

[–] bastion@feddit.nl 3 points 1 year ago

But.. but.. ..they want to ride the hate train, and you're interfering with reason.

[–] electrogamerman@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I literally said he has a lot to deal with. Learn to read.
