Prosecutors in Japan are calling for an Australian grandmother accused of importing 2 kilograms of methamphetamine to be jailed for 10 years.

Donna Nelson was found with the drugs hidden under a false bottom of her travel case, after landing at Tokyo's Narita Airport in January last year.

She has told the court she picked up the bag in Laos for her online romantic partner, who needed it as a sample for his sprawling fashion business.

What drove a grandmother in Perth to result in risking being a drug mule in the first place. 10 years is a life sentence.

Says she was scammed by a fake romantic partner. She didn’t know she had the drugs.
