So when first launching Sync, it has a default of anonymous browsing on lemmy.world and then you can add an account for any instance you have a log in on. Is there a way to add anonymous accounts on other instances so you can browse their local communities without posting?

Settings -> Lemmy Preferences -> Home Instance

Change that to change the home instance of the anonymous account.

Here's a direct link to the setting in question

Settings shortcut: Lemmy preferences > Home instance

LPT: You can press-hold a setting to copy a path to it, which can be pasted into a comment.

It says you cannot change your home instance once you're logged in.

Switch to your anonymous profile, press settings and then go to

Settings shortcut: Lemmy preferences > Home instance

It would be nice also to be able to browse other instances while logged into your home instance account so that you can find communities that you might not otherwise know about and subscribe directly.

You can do that in Connect.
