What is it with doors? Doors suck. Every door I own sucks at being a door. They either don't close right or don't open right. I could be a door better than these 50 year old hollow core planks.
Dull Men's Club
An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.
1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.
2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.
3. Avoid repetitive topics.
4. This is not a search engine or advice forum.
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions, identify objects or get advice. We accept very few questions, and they must be over topics much more difficult than what is easily discoverable with a search. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.
5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.
6. Not hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.
7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.
8. All polls must have an "Africa, by Toto" option. Why? Because we hear the drums echoing tonight.
Oh you know it. More than anything, it’s just a matter of making the frame square. Take the time to check things with a level. If not, then start pulling the trim and making adjustments. It’s not hard, you just bite the bullet and do it. Then you get the satisfaction of fixing something… until the house shifts again, lol.
My ancestors are the fools who build their house upon the sand. There aren't any straight lines or right angles on this house. I bet it wouldn't even burn worth a fuck.
This is not dull to me. The first time I fixed a door for similar reasons, the Internet didn't exist as it does now. I had to go to my public library in hopes to find books on how to do so since my father was on travel for work for over a month and long distance calls were expensive. It might be easier today, but fixing something around the house is an important skill. I hope that you are proud of the work you did.
Oh I am but for me it was dull and routine. I’ve now renovated 2 houses on my own over the last 20 years.
It’s funny you mentioned learning a skill. I just loaned my nail gun and compressor to a younger neighbor this evening. I was a bit taken aback at first by his complete lack of knowledge of how to use an air compressor. It took me a second to register it, but then I showed him the ropes without being patronizing. He really appreciated the lesson. It was cool to pass on knowledge.
Some folks just never get certain knowledge passed down to them for a host of reasons. Good on ya for not making a big deal of it.
