I noticed that about "The Militant" (the Socialist Worker's Party main web site). I'm not especially on board with the SWP, but it seems like a strange decision in both cases given their target audience, right?

Yes. But my question is, why no Tor? Back in my day, all the anti-establishment organizations really valued that stuff, as part of a general culture of online safety, and wanted to push people to use it, not away from it.
Many still do. I have no idea why they don’t.

A ban evader is someone who creates alternate accounts to sneak back into communities or instances they've been banned from, just to continue posting.
I don’t do that.
I’ve kept the same username across different instances, and I avoid posting in communities where I’ve been banned. I do this for transparency—so everyone knows I’m not posting in places that I’m banned from.
And yes, I’m aware of that thread. In fact, I use a screenshot of it as my profile banner. Notice that the new instance admins didn’t ban me because they saw that I wasn’t ban evading.
For example: If you banned me from this community, I wouldn’t post here again, no matter what instance I’m using. I’m not a ban evader.
Moving to a different instance after being banned, and avoiding the banned instance, is NOT ban evading.
Lemmy values diversity of thought, and the whole point of the Fediverse is that there’s no central authority that can just get rid of everyone they don't like.
Different admins and different instances have different preferences and crowds. That's what's so awsome about the Fediverse and Lemmy!

Yep, I actually subscribe to their newspaper as well and receive a printed version every week.
The thing is, they're such a small group that they don’t really have the resources to develop a stronger, more secure web presence. I’ve reached out to them about expanding their role online and even started a Mastodon account for them, but they just don’t seem interested in focusing on that.
That said, I still admire what they do with unions and how they stand against the mainstream.
As you know, I voted for their candidate, Rachele Fruit, for president.
I’m a big fan of the SWP and even moderate their community on some instances.
Since you've popped up, evading my attempts to block you on some of your other accounts, I might as well ask a question. How did you square supporting a candidate who is so openly pro-Israel, including in their current operation in Gaza? It takes some special level of... something, for them to manage to be quite a bit worse than even the Democratic candidate on the issue and still be asking for the leftist vote.

As you have seen, and sometimes been a part of, there are groups of people that regularly try to get me banned from whatever instance I show up on. But luckily, admins are seeing how weird and witch-hunty that is and are not instance-banning. Cool heads have prevailed. For now.
But I still gotta diversify just in case of an instance-ban. As every socialist-anarchist should!

I'm not pro-Israel or pro-Gaza. I’m pro-US workers. Just like you supported Harris even though you didn't agree with everything she did or said, I didn’t necessarily support everything that Fruit did or said.
But I do support her efforts and the efforts of the SWP when it comes to labor here in the US.
I wasn't voting for who I thought would win, or against who I though would lose. I was voting for the person who best matched my labor union and socialist viewpoints. Rachele Fruit was that person.
To be honest, and I don’t care how upset Lemmy gets about it, my life doesn’t revolve around the Middle East or Russia/Ukraine. We have enough problems locally, and that’s where I focus my attention.
Those other issues are serious, of course, but they aren’t something I dwell on. People's views on them don’t sway me one way or the other.
I support pro-labor union, pro-worker candidates every time, just as I always said I would.
I'm also anti-censorship, and yes, I saw that you jumped in and commented on the recent "Let's ban Universal Monk" thread from a few days ago. I also read where you think I'm mentally ill. LMAO.
However, calling me mentally ill just because I post frequently and share content you don’t approve of does a disservice to people who are truly struggling with mental health. I worked as a teacher's aide for several years before retiring a month ago, and I worked with children who were genuinely mentally unwell.
I respect your right to have your opinions, but you are very, very wrong to label me as mentally ill just because of what I post on Lemmy. :)
And for the record, MANY of the things I said about the Biden/Harris and Trump capitalist duopoly are now being repeated all the time in c/politics on .world. I was saying the same thing that's fairly commonplace over there now, and the community thought I lived in Russia or was a bot. Remember?

This is my issue with you: Even when you're pretending to be polite, you're disrespecting the people you're talking to. You're wildly mischaracterizing important things into different things. Getting banned, and then making a bunch of accounts on new instances saying "Despite the attempts to silence me, I’m still here" is evading the ban. Using different names on other instances without that ban or with a change in behavior would be something else, and perfectly fine, of course. You also mischaracterized my issue with you, which I was pretty clear about in the comments you said you saw. I quoted mod logs of you violating the rules with incredible aggressiveness, pissing off almost everyone, and posting unhinged messages to people. That's the problem, not that you support third parties. It's nothing to do with "censorship" or "free speech," but it's perfectly your MO that you will say "calling me mentally ill just because I post frequently and share content you don’t approve of" to pretend that the issue is something other than what I explained that it is.
You probably saw where I acknowledged that probably I shouldn't speculate about mental illness, I apologize for that. It's true I have no idea. A lot of your postings and the sheer magnitude of them sound sincerely unhinged, or at least they did before you got instance-banned and came back with a friendlier approach. Honestly, if it was a sincere friendlier approach, I don't think I would have any kind of issue welcoming you back. Like, "Hey, I still believe in this thing I'm saying, but I do want to promote it in ways that are respectful of the community while still being straight about what I want to promote, let's talk about how to do that." It's all good, man. But you're still trying to engineer ways around the rules, still posting ragebait like "transracial" and content from Fox News and Breitbart, while still pretending to be super-friendly and not understand what the issue is or was in the first place. If that's just a pretense to amuse yourself, I think it's fair to ban you for it, because that's trolling. If it's just who you are, which I think is a real possibility, then I think for your own sake you should grow out of it and start being real with people instead. And definitely, you should start to respect people's consent to the interaction you're having with them, instead of deciding you have the right to evade their attempts to have their boundaries respected, to any extent you can get away with. That's the real issue that leads people to care about this trivial-seeming issue so much. It's nothing to do with third parties or any of your professed beliefs. If you decided to do those things, people wouldn't be so hostile to you, and also, any viewpoint you do want to say would certainly have a better reception, instead of a backlash that leads people to attack anyone promoting third parties as a Russian bot or what-have-you.

You have 15 different accounts, by my count, so it would take significant time for me to sort out where they all are and block you on each and every one, so I'm stuck now with just explaining to you and anyone else reading what the issue is that leads me to think that, yes, you should be banned, for as long as this is your MO.

Yeah, I have never denied that. I was banned on one instance so I branched out to different instances. I decentralized, which lines up with the entire spirit of the Fediverse.

I disagree. Evading a ban is coming up with a DIFFERENT user name, then going into places I was banned from and continuing to post. I have never posted on .world since the ban (other than to respond to the thread you participated in and I worked with .world admin on that and made them and my admin aware of it).
By me keeping the same username across instances, I'm being transparent. It would be very easy to just pick a new name, and go back on .world and post. That would be ban evading, which I don't do.

"Ragebait" is posting something to piss people off on purpose. I don't do that. I post whatever I find interesting, regardless of source, and I follow rules of the communities. And when I don't, they remove.
I recently had a community say my source wasn't good enough and gave me a list of sources that they thought were acceptable. So now I only post from those sources.
Not everyone hates Fox News and Brietbart. You do, and that's perfectly fine. If you modded a community, I wouldn't post from those sources. But those sources are not outlawed in the US or the earth or Lemmy. Even if you wish they were.
I'm not sorry that I don't hate Trump as much as Lemmy does. But apparently a huge chunk of the US doesn't either, since he won popular vote.
But I still didn't vote for him nor do I think he will be a good president. And I don't think that just because I post a news article that is favorable to him makes me a "nazi."

That's not an issue of free speech and the viewpoint you're trying to express. That's an issue of, you need to step away from the computer, get to a better place with yourself, because it's not good for the community you are posting it in, or for the person you're talking to, or for you.
I don't know if pasting sections from the horror fiction counts, since it's "supposed to be horror," but that was a lot more unhinged. You found a way to write a long and descriptive story where your enemies on Lemmy got killed, but then could innocently claim it was just some creative writing unrelated to any specific people, and people in horror stories are supposed to die, and it's normal.

You get blocked, banned, and in these hostile exchanges with people because you ignore the social contract. That's on you, that's your decision. So, it's going to annoy people if they block you and then find more content from you popping up, even if you have made a case for why "I'm allowed to do it! The admins said I could! It's just a new account!"

Again, not unhinged. Those stories are direct parodies of the absurdity of Lemmy and how passionate people are.
Even the name of the series is "Tales from the Cryptic Lemmy." Get it? Tales from the Crypt. The 1960's outrageous comic and the cheesy 1980's tv show. And I still write them and just added a story and am finishing up editing one now.
