Gatsby gets his mysterious wealth in Bitcoin selling research chems on the dark web.
Assuming a modern day remake because period pieces are hard.
Does Old Money/New Money still apply today? I know in the book it's basically one of the reasons why Gatsby doesn't get on well with a lot of folks but does it still have the same kind of hostility?
If not is there anything you could bring in to recreate that same dynamic? Something that makes Gatsby rich but not "rich" if you get my meaning.
That's a good point. I'd say it does to some respect but it certainly would not be such an obvious or relatable divide to the general audience. There is still kind of a difference between tech-bro rich and Warren Buffett rich, I could picture Gatsby as a silicon valley type
Some dumb start-up actually succeeds and gets him rich.
Gives him a few excuses to dumb shit like throw parties and drive fast cars around.
Could make Daisy a yass-queen CEO lol. Or is that too much power for her character?
Carraway could be some kind of self-help guru that Gatsby hires for himself. Silicon Valley loves that faux-hippy crap, right? Gives an excuse for him to be there (he lives with him because he's like a life coach) and for him to stand in for the audience. He's basically there to evaluate his character and so can easily do that without seeming forced.
Like he starts out with this just being another gig with a weirdo tech bro before actually starting to like him and understand his personality more than he usually does.
i would actually kill tom and daisy somehow. also make nick gay for Gatsby, more then he already was of course. :jeb:
