Among the five living men who have served as president, Barack Obama has the most favorable image and Joe Biden the least favorable.

Biden learned the hard way that you can't commit a genocide and still be liked unless you talk like a cult leader and collect millions of loyal dupes.

it's difficult to see bush jr as number 2 on that list since he literally started 2 pointless wars on both a flimsy pretext and a bald faced lie about wmd's.

both he and his democratic flanks are the clearest sign that americans dgaf if non-americans are slaughtered or their human rights are violated; so long as both social and legacy media alike keep them distracted from being aware of either.

9/11 did a lot of work for Bush Jr.'s approval ratings (Gallup ratings). Same with Giuliani. If it hadn't happened Rudy would have been despised by the public at large a lot sooner.

These polls are rather meaningless though, the right will never be honest and say "our guy bad". They're authy bootlickers by nature.

So all of their presidents will be artificially inflated. Not that people's opinions on them matters when it comes to "how good a job they did" or how much they improved people's lives, or how "honest" they were etc.

agreed and i think it's just difficult for me because of the detrimental impact obama & bush have had on my life.

Every single one of them should stand trial at The Hague for their crimes. Absolute scum of the earth.

As a leftist, I’m used to pissing off both Democrats and Republicans. I’m sure neither liked the idea of one of theirs being held accountable.

Just wait until Brandon's acting career takes off , you'll see!

Trump's ratings are going to fall like a rock as his supporters realize how much his policies are hurting them directly. I saw a post over the weekend from a lady screeching that her package from Temu was being held for a $42 tariff payment but Trump told her tariffs wouldn't affect Americans... Welcome to the "find out" phase, idiot.

Like a good opposition party puppet, they'll rehabilitate Trump just like they did with Bush, even after Bush killed a million innocent people in Iraq.

They would prefer to live in a literal cave as long as black people have to live in smaller caves in the mountain on the far side.

I just learned that W.E.B. Du Bois pointed this out in 1935 in terms of why poor whites in the Reconstruction-era South preferred to side with the white landowners who exploited them rather than their fellow workers who happened to be black. People would rather feel superior than actually pursue a better life for everyone. It's come to be called The Wages of Whiteness.

Dubois contributed a lot to labor aristocracy theory.

there's a meme out there with nancy reagan explaining that republican's dgaf about problems until it impacts them and i'm learning that it's true for all americans, republican or not.

obama's followers will continue to like him because his ghoulish policies w immigration, didn't impact them, but it impacted people like me and, you're right, that, that direct hurt has made me not like him.

on the flip side, if trumps policies end up somehow miraculously working like it did for milei or bukele; then trump will likewise become as popular as obama.

republican’s dgaf about problems until it impacts them

The way that removed opposed stem cell research until Ronny needed it?

I mean, if I was asked to pick my least hated president from among 2 rapists (minimum), limp dick Biden, fucking George Bush, and Obama, I'm picking Obama. If you'd have asked me like 2 months ago, it's Carter hands down, but alas

Can you please explain Obama's "ghoulish immigration policies" ? Not American here with little knowledge of lots of things.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

tldr: obama deported more immigrants than any president in history and it's given him the nickname "deporter in chief"

and the most ghoulish are his policies that diminished protections for asylum seekers and focused on deporting child migrants. i found this article that touches on both: https://www.latintimes.com/deporter-chief-obama-ordered-7000-immigrant-children-be-deported-without-court-375127

in my case: his anti-gay marriage stance combined with his immigration policy led to the forced dissolution of my marriage and deportation of my husband since he came into this country as a migrant child (as i would have been also if my parents had waited another year before coming into this country).

Oh my thanks for this. I knew zero about it. So sorry to hear about your marriage. That's just unthinkable to me. It's strange to think that a change in government, a change in policy can wreck so many lives. Bloody hell I had thought he was pretty good too until this moment. I got the gist off Reddit that he was very disliked, but I never knew why.
I hope you have found lots of peace and happiness in life.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

i'm surprised to hear that he's disliked on reddit; i left reddit because of it's political center-right disposition and that includes love for obama.

are there particular subreddits where he's disliked?

[–] DiaDeLosMuertos@aussie.zone 1 points 2 hours ago

Oh I'm not sure but I have often heard him having negative things said of him. I have dipped my toe into the Conservative and Republican subs at times though.

Thanks Obama
