I have put more hours into red alert 2 and generals/ZH than the rest of my entire gaming collection combined...

I'm very surprised it's under GPL v3, a copyleft license. I was expecting much worse.

They're hoping the mod communities will put life back into these games, increasing sales at little to no expense to EA. It just so happens to be good for the consumer too.
