I've been calling it the moron apocalypse for many years. If you go by some very old definitions, idiots don't have the mental capability to survive on their own. Morons can survive, and apparently ascend to positions of power, including the argubly most powerful people in the world.

I say we put all the idiots into a big bucket of hydrogen peroxide or some other oxidizer so we can have an infinite supply of oxymoron

Hey. A zombie apocalypse isn't out of the question. Maybe after Trump completely guts the CDC and FDA we'll have a zombie virus.

[–] mp3@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 day ago

Unlike zombies, they avoid all kind of brain matter.

The fact that people think other countries pay the tariffs trump sets blows my fucking mind

The zombie apocalypse was at one point supposed to be a metaphor for the idiot apocalypse

I suggest everyone watch the classic I am Legend... no not with will smith, but Vincent Price! It was early concept zombies, they could talk.

As far as I'm aware, originally it was a horror-themed critique of mindless consumerism (which is why malls are the most common backdrop). Could be wrong, but that's what I remember reading.

I've also heard this, but I can't find the source. Something about the horror of being the only sane people left in an insane world, and slowly watching the ones you love fall to the other side.

And with the entire Department of Education being on the chopping block, it is likely to get worse before it gets better.

Almost makes you wish for nuclear winter

This is a dumb comparison. It's apparently frowned upon to attack idiots with flame throwers, baseball bats or chainsaws. I can't use my Left4Dead skills against idiots at all.

The Cranberries song "Zombies" isn't about actual zombies. It's about people who think like zombies.

This one is worse. Zombies don't vote fascists into power. Generally speaking Zombies are not very politically motivated. They also don't complain about "woke" all the time.

[–] RottenState@feddit.dk 1 points 1 day ago

Fascists would love a zombie apocalypse though - endless scapegoating and people would cheer for draconian security.

I find this sort of perspective wildly unhelpful...

People are manipulated, misguided, ignorant. We need to educate and help... Calling them idiots and comparing them to zombies feels so reductive. It's like you don't think they can change or be convinced.

[–] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 0 points 4 hours ago

I DON’T think they can change or be convinced.

I would love to agree and I don't disagree, but corona really showed me how totally idiotic and incompetent some really even intelligent educated people are - first hand experiences.

We should still not give up, but need to care four our health, too.

[–] stopdropandprole@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

even idiots can be made useful sometimes

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The people who are driving and profiting from capitalism are not necessarily idiots. But they are definitely extremely rich/privileged.
